Aerosol Weapons Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) Training:

Class cost: $70.00 (4 hours)

This security guard training is designed as an OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) training course to use any brand of aerosol weapons. Our teaching is based on the latest curriculum. Through certified training, students will follow these objectives:

Oleoresin Capsicum is a powerful non-lethal, inflammatory agent that occurs naturally in cayenne peppers. This agent is an inflames the mucous membranes and causes an involuntary closing of the eyes. Physiological effects on an exposed person may be shortness of breath, tightness of the chest and a feeling of burning to the skin and eyes. Psychological effects include anxiety, fear and panic. The effects of OC vary from person to person and is not 100% effective in all cases

A voluntary exposer is not mandatory but, is recommended. A voluntary exposure will equip the student with a better understanding of the effects of OC and its decontamination procedures. Security guard training tudents wishing to be exposed to OC, need to schedule extra time after classes to fully decontaminate before leaving.

Tactical Handcuffing and Search

Class cost: $70.00 (4 hours)

Tactical handcuffing and search is a course designed to assist security professionals with information and practical techniques in the proper application of wrist restraints and search procedures without the concern of civil repercussions

The course also includes several drills and knowledge assessments for the certification. This is a physical class and students will need to be able to get up and down from a standing to prone position many times throughout the day. Proper attire for this activity is simple workout clothes or utilities

 

Conducted Electrical Weapon (CEW) User Course

Class cost: $70.00 (4 hours)

This course provides the basic operational theory and practical training for users to reasonably safely and effectively operate CEWs. This course covers the major CEWs, and will certify those who successfully complete the course as CEW users

The course also includes several drills and a knowledge assessment is required.
Exposure during the Instructor Course is not required, it is voluntary. We do not require officers to be exposed to a CEW device to be certified as a user

It is recommended that end users re-certify annually. Annual re-certification consists of firing at least two live cartridges in addition to any departmental mandated training, and reviewing the CEW annual user update, product warnings, and current training bulletins

 

ARMED SECURITY OFFICER / GUARD REQUIREMENTS FOR THE STATE OF TENNESSEE

Class cost: $175.00 (16 hours) Bring 50 rounds of ammo and the gun you would like to have certified to carry on the job.

Training to become a Tennessee certified armed security officer includes an examination covering specific subject materials.

STATE REQUIREMENTS says all candidates must complete:

4 hour basic course that includes one (1) hour each of:

  • OrientationArmed Guard
  • Legal powers and limitations of a security guard/officer
  • Emergency Procedures
  • General Duties

8 hours in the classroom covering:

  • Legal limitations on the use of a firearm
  • Handling of a firearm
  • Safety and maintenance of firearms

4 hours of marksmanship training which includes a shooting test that requires a minimum of 70%  score on any silhouette target course approved by the commissioner.

Requirements for armed security guard registration

  • Be at least 21Security Guard

  • Be a citizen or equivalent
  • No convictions in the last 5 years (including probation)
  • Mentally Competent
  • Good Moral Character
  • No drug or alcohol use or dependence
  • No disabilities that would prevent performance of duty
  • Completion of mandatory training requirements
  • Submit to fingerprinting for both the TBI and the FBI

Renewals

Armed Guards/Officers renew registration every two (2) years.
Training Requirements for the use of a Club, Stun Gun, Chemical Spray, Night Stick or other less than lethal device are taught separately.

Pre-Class Information
Please arrive 5-10 minutes before class to allow time to complete some necessary paperwork. Online registration and payment are crucial to obtaining a seat for this class.
Zirkops will provide you with hearing and eye protection for use during the range portion of the class. Students need to bring their duty weapon to use during the live fire portion of the class with 50 + rounds of ammunition. Duty belt with holster, magazine pouch and total of three magazines are recommended but not required to complete the course of fire. It is recommended that students wear a hat with bill, closed toe footwear and comfortable clothes with high neckline.

ARMED RE-CERTIFICATION

Class cost: $75.00 (4 hours)  Bring 50 rounds of ammo and the gun you would like to have certified to carry on the job.

A re-certification for a Tennessee armed security officer must occur every two years. Every two (2) years armed security guards must complete 4 hours of refresher training and re-qualify in the use of a firearm by achieving a minimum of 70% on any silhouette target course approved by the commissioner prior to the renewal of their guard registration.

Unarmed Security Officer/Guard Requirements for the State of Tennessee

Class cost: $75.00 (4 hours) 

Training to become a Tennessee certified unarmed security officer includes an examination covering specific subject materials. All candidates must complete a four hour basic course including one (1) hour each of:
